Lauren’s Top 7 Elopement Destinations in Upstate NY

From sweeping vistas, to tiny churches, to a sitcom favorite, there are so many elopement destinations in upstate New York! If you’re looking to bypass the big city and get married somewhere more cozy, here are my top 7 places to elope in upstate New York.

Alexandria Bay Wedding

Niagara Falls

You’ve probably heard that Niagara Falls is a top honeymoon destination, but the famous waterfall also makes a stunning backdrop for your elopement. If you and your hunny are fans of the sitcom The Office, take a page out of Jim and Pam’s book and get married on the Maid of the Mist. If not, consider eloping with the Bridal Chapel of Niagara Falls, which offers ceremonies at their chapel with beautiful stained glass windows and vaulted ceiling – or even on a helicopter ride above the falls!

Boldt Castle

Want to get married at a European-style castle on a heart-shaped island? Believe it or not, you can do it right here in New York! Click here to learn more about getting married at Boldt Castle, in the Dove-Cote near the island’s flower-filled Italian gardens.

Taughannock Falls

At 215 feet, Taughannock Falls is the highest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. Easy trails lead to both the base of the waterfall and an overlook, giving you two gorgeous options for your adventurous upstate New York elopement.

Idlwilde Inn

Built in 1892, Idlwilde Inn is a Victorian mansion housed in Watkins Glen, overlooking the southern end of Seneca Lake. Eloping here is easy, with a package that includes an officiant, an on-site coordinator and a two-night stay in the Idlwilde’s master suite. For your upstate New York wedding photos, Watkins Glen State Park is a short drive away and boasts 19 picturesque waterfalls.

Emerson Park Pavillion, NY WeddingCross Island Chapel

Want to elope in the world’s smallest chapel? Just head to Oneida! The miniature church is only accessible by boat, and is a great choice if you’re looking for a truly intimate elopement in upstate New York.

Algonquin Mountain

This one is for the decidedly adventurous! Hiking to the top of Algonquin Mountain will take about 3-4 hours, but the views from this 5,000+ foot peak are unbeatable.

Air Balloon over Letchworth

Plan an elopement in a hot air balloon above Letchworth State Park! The ride costs about $1,400 per couple and $365 per additional passenger. According to the company, this leaves plenty of room for your officiant and photographer/me!

Minnewaska State Park

If you’re looking for an elopement destination close to New York City, Minnewaska State Park is an excellent choice! Choose between lakeside vistas, waterfalls, forests, or dramatic cliffs – all within 90 minutes of NYC.

Whether you’re looking for an intimate elopement in upstate New York, or something further afield, I’m here to help you plan your special day – and capture it beautifully for years to come. Whenever you’re ready to start your journey, feel free to reach out. I can’t wait to meet you!

With love,

Lauren
